Railway Line to Northern and Northwestern Spain

Section: Lalín-Santiago. Subsection: Boqueixón-Santiago

The section is inside the High Speed Line Ourense-Santiago, framed within the Railway Link to Northen and Northwestern Spain, which will facilitate the connection of the line Madrid-Valladolid with the Eje Atlantico (Line Santiago-A Coruña), in Galicia.  

The section Boqueixon-Santiago is included in its entirety in the province of A Coruña, and runs through the municipal terms of Boqueixón and Santiago de Compostela.

The project includes the works that are necessary for the establishment of the platform of double track UIC width using a projecting speed of 350 km/h.

The railway track projected runs Northwest direction over an rough ground through areas of forest and grassland, crossing through the Valley of the Rego de Arins (a valley of about 1 km in width), and through the heights of Os Alargos, Os Cotos, monte do Castañal and O Eixo, with slopes of more than 150 m in heigth, in a total distance of about 5.8 km.

The project includes two tunnels of more than 100 square meters of section: the Tunnel of Marrozos, of 1,158 meters in length, and the Tunnel of Santiago, 598.5 m in length.

The great Valley of Rego do Arins is crossed with the viaduct of O’Eixo of 1.224,4 m in length and height of piers up to 84 m. 

Within the earth movement included in the project of section Boqueixon-Santiago there are two large trenches: the first one 400 m in length and height up to 15 m; and the second one 1,100 m in length and height up to 23 m.

The project also included four overpasses for tracks and roads crossing over the railway, and a underpass for another road.
